Thai Sunsets

The rain comes almost every evening, but it's always welcomed after a long beautiful
day in the sun! We're loving the sunsets in Southern Thailand and the pitter patter lullabies!

My darling husband!

Posing for the classic sunset on the beach picture!

Cheese!

Our daily view isn't too shabby!

Viewpoint Climb

This is where our climb to the top started! The big rock in the background was our goal! It was the muddiest climb of our lives, but worth every minute! We had a blast every step of the way!

Cave exploring!! Kind of scary!!

Eeeek! I'd rather not!!

He's always up for exploring! One of the many things I love about him!

I so did not go in this cave!! I just posed for a picture! You couldn't pay me to climb down there!! I'm such a chicken when it comes to caves... I'd rather jump out of a plane!

He's such a trooper! Best hiking partner ever!

He's getting a bit hungry with all this hiking!

Love this tree trunk!

Woohoo!!

Climbing a wall like this isn't easy when it's covered in mud!

All the sweat was worth this perfect postcard view!!
A little piece of heaven right here in Thailand!

I was a hot mess, but well worth it!!

Monkey Trail to Ao Nang

There is only 2 ways in and 2 ways out of our private beach and it's either by boat or the monkey trail! The monkey trail only being used if you really want to get to town last minute or save $20. It's a treacherous path across the rocks you see in the picture above! Of course, on our first night here we wanted dinner last minute in town, so of course we took the monkey trail at night with a flash light, umbrella and backpack for shopping. We met a couple on their way back as we were heading up the trail and asked them how it was? They said they wouldn't take this trail at night as first timers, and they just saw a snake! O joy!! Of course we didn't let this new knowledge deter us and pressed onward in a light rain. Now that I have seen this path in the daylight, I agree that ignorance is truly bliss!

This part of the trail is no problem unless it's raining,
then everything becomes as slick as ice!

This is where we put away the camera!

A glimpse of the view to come!

The reason they call it Monkey Trail!

They look harmless!

Those are the teeth I'm afraid of!!

A meditating monkey!

Not so sweet huh?! I ran after I snapped his picture!!

Made it off Monkey Trail in one piece!

Where we just came from!

Hello Little Kitty!

We had a small window of opportunity to pet a tiger and we went for it!

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep

Wat Suthep is one of the North's most sacred temples. It sits atop Doi Suthep's summit and if you have car sickness like myself, you will find this drive in a Taxi quite nauseating! Once you reach the summit you have another 306 steps to climb before you actually reach the temple.
The temple was first established in 1383 under King Keu Naone and has a really mystical birth story. A visiting monk from Sukhothai instructed the Lanna king to take the twin of a miraculous relic to the mountain and establish a temple. The relic was mounted on the back of a white elephant, which was allowed to wander until it 'chose' a site on which a wát could be built to enshrine it. The white elephant stopped and died at a spot on Doi Suthep, where the temple was built in the Year of the Goat.

The beginning of 306 stairs...

Almost there...

One of the many little girls on the way up to the temple.

Made it to the top!
